Metallica is revisiting one of the band’s most experimental and divisive eras with the announcement of ReLoad (Remastered), arriving June 26 through Blackened Recordings. Alongside the expansive reissue campaign, the band has released a newly restored live video capturing their November 11, 1997 performance in Philadelphia during the ReLoad touring cycle.
The live footage, filmed during Metallica’s legendary pop-up appearance in the parking lot of the former CoreStates Complex in Philadelphia, showcases the band performing “The Memory Remains” at the height of the Load/ReLoad era. The performance has become a fan-favorite moment in Metallica history, blending the raw energy of the band’s late-‘90s reinvention with the chaos and excitement of an outdoor Philadelphia crowd.
The newly announced ReLoad (Remastered) Limited Edition Deluxe Box Set serves as a deep archival dive into Metallica’s 1997-1998 period. The collection includes remastered audio overseen by Reuben Cohen and Greg Fidelman, unreleased demos, rough mixes, live recordings, television appearances, and behind-the-scenes footage. Among the highlights are multiple DVDs featuring the Philadelphia parking lot performance, offering fans a restored look at one of the band’s most memorable East Coast appearances.
Originally released in 1997, ReLoad debuted at No. 1 and featured staples including “Fuel,” “The Memory Remains,” and “The Unforgiven II.” While the album marked a stylistic shift from Metallica’s thrash roots, the era has since developed a devoted following, with many fans revisiting the material through the lens of the band’s continued evolution.
The deluxe set arrives June 26 in multiple formats, including vinyl, CD, cassette, digital editions, and a massive collector’s box featuring 15 CDs, four DVDs, exclusive memorabilia, and a 128-page hardcover book documenting the era.
