P.O.D. Complete New Album in Philadelphia, Targeting Fall Release

Written by Kevin Carroll

A change of scenery in Philadelphia may have given P.O.D. the spark needed for one of the most intriguing chapters of their career.

P.O.D.

P.O.D. have wrapped recording on their upcoming studio album, tracking the project in South Philadelphia with Grammy-winning producer Will Yip. The record marks the band's first album ever recorded outside California and could arrive as early as this fall.

For more than three decades, P.O.D. have built their identity around Southern California. That's what makes the band's latest studio album such a notable milestone.

The veteran rockers have officially completed recording their next full-length release, and for the first time in their career, they left California behind to make it happen. Instead, the band headed to South Philadelphia, where they teamed up with producer Will Yip at Memory Music Studios to track what will become their twelfth studio album.

According to guitarist Marcos Curiel, the band recorded everything from vocals and guitars to bass tracks during an intense 12-day session in Philadelphia. The album has since moved into the mixing stage, with the group hopeful that fans will hear the first taste of new music in August ahead of a planned fall release. While an official title and release date have not yet been announced, Curiel said the band is eager to share what they've created.

The Philadelphia connection is more than just a footnote. Curiel previously revealed that this is the first P.O.D. album ever tracked outside of California, calling the experience a refreshing change for the band. Recording in Pennsylvania allowed the members to step away from familiar routines and focus entirely on the music.

Their choice of producer also raised eyebrows in the best way possible. Yip has become one of the most respected names in modern rock and hardcore, earning acclaim for his work with bands like Turnstile, Title Fight and Circa Survive. Curiel said the partnership came naturally, noting that Yip was already a longtime fan of P.O.D. before discussions about working together began.

Musically, the new record is expected to build on the momentum of 2024's Veritas, which marked the band's first studio album in six years. Curiel described the upcoming release as an extension of where Veritas was heading while still feeling fresh and forward-looking.

Fans can also expect a heavier sound. Earlier this year, vocalist Sonny Sandoval revealed that Curiel had been experimenting with a seven-string guitar during the writing process, helping push the band's trademark blend of rap rock, alternative metal and groove-driven riffs into deeper territory.

For Philadelphia music fans, the album carries an extra layer of significance. While the city has long served as a proving ground for hardcore, punk and alternative acts, it now has a place in P.O.D.'s history as the birthplace of a new chapter for one of rock's most enduring bands. If the energy of those Philadelphia sessions translates to the finished product, the band's next album could become one of the most talked-about heavy releases of the fall.
